SUMNER SCHOOL MUSEUM AND ARCHIVES

The Charles Sumner School Museum. in Washington, D.C.is a beautifully restored historic site. The Sumner School (once named Dunbar) was one of three Black elementary schools built after the American Civil War. In 1877, this school graduated the first group of blacks in the United States.

In this historic context, Laura Jones feels honored to display her photographs, which document the struggle for civil and economic rights. They record brief moments of modern history – the Poor People’s Campaign.
