INFORMATION SUMNER
SCHOOL MUSEUM AND ARCHIVES The
Charles Sumner School Museum. in Washington, D.C.is a beautifully restored historic
site. The Sumner School (once named Dunbar) was one of three Black elementary
schools built after the American Civil War. In 1877, this school graduated the
first group of blacks in the United States. In
this historic context, Laura Jones feels honored to display her photographs, which
document the struggle for civil and economic rights. They record brief moments
of modern history the Poor Peoples Campaign. Charles
