VISION STATEMENT

“With my photographs, I am interested in looking at social justice issues while maintaining a strong aesthetic viewpoint. I was nineteen when I took the photographs of the Poor People’s Campaign. Now, I’m a grandmother and I still see the need to be an active witness and participant working towards a just and sustainable world.”

JEAN JONES

My mother, Jean Jones, a retired librarian and archivst, influenced me with her natural openness and interest in people from a diverse range of backgrounds. She brought interesting people home and I listened to their discussions. Her activities included attending meetings about social issues, and canvassing door to door to discourage neighbors fleeing because of ‘block busting’. She demonstrated in civil rights and peace marches. I continued in her footsteps working on issues of civil rights, peace, and the environment – often using my camera.
